It is well known that whoever claims that sound reason, which must be followed, contradicts what the messengers brought—which is the way of Allah—has sought to make the way of Allah crooked; that is, he has sought crookedness in it. For he has sought to demonstrate that it is crooked and deviates from the truth, that this divinely ordained path, known through revelation and transmitted from the prophets, is crooked rather than straight, and that the straight path is the one devised by those who oppose the path of the prophets.
The following further clarifies this.
[The Twenty-Third Argument]
It may be stated as follows:
It is well known that Allah has declared that He sent His messengers with guidance and clear explanation to bring people out of darkness into light. He, the Most High, says:
“It is He who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth.” [al-Tawbah: 33]
He, the Most High, also says:
“And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what the Book was or what faith was, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, you guide to a straight path * The path of Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.” [al-Shūrā: 52–53]
He, the Most High, also says:
“A Book which We have revealed to you so that you may bring people out of darkness into light, by their Lord’s permission, to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy * Allah, to whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.” [Ibrāhīm: 1–2]
Up to His words:
“And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people, so that he might make things clear to them.” [Ibrāhīm: 4]
