Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

the heavens and the earth, and then rested. Allah Most High said:

“No weariness touched Us.”

Qāf, 38.

Had the attributes affirmed in the Torah been among the things they altered and fabricated, denouncing this would have been among the greatest obligations. The Messenger would have censured them for what those who deny the divine attributes condemn as likening Allah to His creation, attributing a body to Him, and other such formulations. Since the Arab Messenger affirmed the attributes mentioned in the Torah and reported the same, this is among the strongest proofs that the attributes mentioned in the Torah, which the Arab Messenger also reported, were not fabricated by the People of the Book.

In the two Sahīh collections, ‘Abd Allah ibn Mas‘ūd relates that a Jewish rabbi told the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that on the Day of Resurrection Allah would hold the heavens on one finger, the earths on one finger, the mountains on one finger, the trees and soil on one finger, and all other creatures on one finger. He would then shake them and say:

“I am the King! I am the King!”

The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, laughed in amazement and in confirmation of the rabbi’s words. He then recited the words of Allah Most High:

“They have not accorded Allah His due measure. The entire earth will be in His grasp on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand.”
