Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

Thus, if the one who knows Allah best among all creation cannot fully recount His praise, how could anyone else? And if, in the Hereafter, he is inspired with forms of praise that he did not know in this world, what of anyone else?

In this connection, we recall the story of Moses and al-Khidr—peace be upon them both—and the sparrow dipping its beak into the sea.

ʿAlī ibn Abī Tālib—may Allah be pleased with him—said, as reported by al-Bukhārī:

“Speak to people about what they understand, and leave aside what they find unfamiliar. Would you like Allah and His Messenger to be disbelieved?”

ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd—may Allah be pleased with him—said:

“Whenever a man tells people something their minds cannot grasp, it becomes a trial for some of them.”
