Darʾ Taʿâroud al-ʿAql wa-n-NaqlIbn Taimiya

And in the well-known supplication:

“O Allah, I ask You by every name that is Yours, by which You have named Yourself, or which You have revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept to Yourself in Your knowledge of the unseen.”

If, then, among His names are some whose knowledge He has kept to Himself, no one else knows them. That is so; and what He has granted exclusively to certain servants is not known to others.

An authentic hadith relates that he—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—used to say in his supplication:

“I cannot fully recount Your praise; You are as You have praised Yourself.”

And in the hadith of intercession:

“I will be inspired with forms of praise with which I will praise Him, though I do not know how to express them now.”
