As for his statement, “Where is the indication of the subtle meanings pertaining to the science of divine oneness, such as whether He knows by virtue of His essence or by virtue of knowledge, or is powerful by virtue of His essence or by virtue of power, and so on?”—this is addressed to those who share his misguidance and heresy, since he supposes that denying the divine attributes constitutes divine oneness, and that the Creator, Most High, has neither knowledge nor power nor any attributes.
Those who do not share his error, however, know that the Book has explained in the best possible manner the subtleties of true divine oneness brought by the messengers and revealed in the scriptures.
Allah Most High has described His attributes and names in so many of His verses that they can scarcely be counted, and has mentioned His knowledge in numerous places. For example, He says:
“They encompass nothing of His knowledge except what He wills.”
Al-Baqarah: 255.
He also says:
“He sent it down with His knowledge.”
Al-Nisā’: 166.
And He says:
“No fruits emerge from their sheaths, and no female conceives or gives birth, except with His knowledge.”
Fussilat: 47.
There are other such passages as well.
