“The Messenger’s duty is only to convey the message clearly.”
Al-‘Ankabūt: 18
And He, exalted be He, says:
“And We have sent down to you the Reminder so that you may make clear to people what has been sent down to them.”
Al-Nahl: 44
And He, exalted be He, says:
“Today I have perfected your religion for you.”
Al-Mā’idah: 3
And He, exalted be He, says:
“Allah would not cause a people to go astray after He has guided them until He has made clear to them what they must avoid.”
Al-Tawbah: 115
These and similar texts show that the Messenger guided people and explained matters to them, bringing them out of darkness into light—not that he confused them and gave them false impressions, concealing the truth without explaining it or guiding either the select few or the public at large to it. For it is well known that the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, never said anything to anyone that contradicted what he openly proclaimed to people. Nor did his closest Companions hold beliefs concerning him that contradicted what he openly proclaimed. Rather, the closer anyone was to him and the better they knew him, the more fully they agreed with him and affirmed the truth of what he openly proclaimed and explained. Thus, if the hidden truth had differed from what he openly proclaimed, he would necessarily have either been ignorant of it or concealed it from both the select few and the public at large, while presenting its opposite to both.
Anyone familiar with his Sunnah and his life knows that reports to the contrary are fabricated lies, such as the claim made by some of the Rāfidah that ‘Alī possessed special, hidden knowledge that contradicted this outward teaching.
