These whisperings are dispelled by seeking refuge in Allah and by the servant refusing to pursue them. When Satan says, “You have not washed your face?” he should reply, “Indeed, I have washed my face.” When the thought occurs to him that he has neither formed his intention nor pronounced the takbīr, he should say in his heart, “Indeed, I have formed my intention and pronounced the takbīr.” Thus he stands firm upon the truth and repels the whisperings that oppose it. Satan then sees his strength and steadfastness upon the truth and retreats from him. Otherwise, whenever Satan sees him receptive to doubts and specious arguments, responsive to whisperings and passing thoughts, he brings him more than he can repel. His heart becomes a receptacle for the embellished speech inspired by the devils among humankind and jinn. He moves from this to other matters until Satan drives him to destruction.

“Allah is the Protector of those who believe. He brings them out of darkness into light. As for those who disbelieve, their protectors are tāghūt, who bring them out of light into darkness.”
