The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, would swear:
“No, by the Turner of hearts.”
He would also frequently say:
“By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad.”
A hadith states:
“The heart is more turbulent than a pot at a rolling boil.”
There is abundant evidence for this principle, quite apart from what everyone knows of his own condition: the many changes his heart undergoes through passing thoughts, some relating to beliefs and others to intentions, some praiseworthy and others blameworthy. Allah is the One who has the power to turn these away from him. Seeking refuge in Allah is therefore a means of attaining the intended goal, which cannot be achieved through reflection and inference.
[The second argument]
The second argument is that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not command seeking refuge alone. Rather, he commanded the servant to stop pursuing such thoughts while also seeking refuge, thereby making clear that this question is the endpoint of satanic whispering and must therefore be abandoned.
