this that everything subject to change is originated, since it does not precede originated events, a beginningless succession of such events being impossible. Everything in which originated events occur is subject to change and must therefore be originated. Thus, the method we have followed is the method of Abraham, the intimate friend of Allah.

This has been stated by many who deny the attributes, such as Bishr al-Marīsī and others like him, Ibn Aqīl, Abū Hāmid al-Rāzī, and many others.

Moreover, the Quran indicates that He is not a body, because He is One (ahad), and ahad means that which cannot be divided. He is One (wāhid), and wāhid means that which cannot be divided. And because He is al-Samad, and al-Samad means that which has no hollow interior: nothing else can penetrate Him, whereas a body can be penetrated by something else; and because He, glorified is He, has said:
