[Hadiths on the Virtues of ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him)]

It is soundly recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥs that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“Among the communities before you there were people who were divinely inspired; if there is anyone of that kind in my community, it is ʿUmar.”

Al-Tirmidhī and others relate that the Prophet (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:

“Had I not been sent among you, ʿUmar would have been sent among you.”

In another narration he said:

“Allah has placed the truth on ʿUmar’s tongue and in his heart.”
