Satan, and this shows that no one who is free of sin will be admitted into it, for such a person neither followed Satan nor committed any offense. What has already been mentioned likewise proves that only those against whom the proof has been established through the messengers will enter the Fire.
[General and Detailed Faith]
Among people are those who believe in the messengers with a general, all-embracing faith. As for detailed faith, it applies to someone to whom much of what the messengers brought has reached while some of it has not. He believes in whatever of their message has reached him, whereas what has not reached him he does not know; had it reached him, he would have believed in it. Thus he holds a general faith in what the messengers brought. If such a person acts upon what he knows they have commanded, together with his faith and piety, he is one of Allah’s allies (awliyāʾ); he enjoys Allah’s patronage in proportion to his faith and piety.
With respect to matters about which the proof has not been established for him, Allah has not made it incumbent upon him to know them or to embrace them in detailed faith, nor will He punish him for neglecting them. However, he will miss a measure of the perfection of Allah’s patronage to the degree that he has missed out on such knowledge. Whoever knows what the Messenger brought, believes in it in detail, and acts upon it possesses a more complete faith and a stronger bond of allegiance to Allah than one who does not know those matters in detail and therefore does not act upon them—yet both remain allies of Allah.
