as He, the Exalted, says:
“Hasten toward forgiveness from your Lord and a Garden as wide as the heavens and the earth, prepared for the God-fearing: those who spend in prosperity and adversity, who restrain their anger and pardon people—Allah loves those who excel in goodness. And those who, when they commit an indecency or wrong themselves, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins—for who forgives sins except Allah?—and do not persist in what they did while they know. The reward of such people is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens beneath which rivers flow, where they will abide forever. How excellent is the recompense of those who act!” ⦗Aal ʿImrān 3:133-136⦘
And His words:
“Gardens of perpetual residence which they shall enter.” ⦗al-Baqarah 2:25 and similar⦘
These verses are cited by the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah as proof that no one who affirms monotheism will remain eternally in the Fire.
[Discussion: The punishment of those who commit major sins]
As for the entry of many perpetrators of major sins into the Fire, this is confirmed by numerous, mass-transmitted reports from the Prophet ﷺ, just as it is equally well-attested that they will eventually be taken out of it; that our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ will intercede on behalf of the major sinners; and that, by his intercession and the intercession of others, whomever Allah wills will be released from the Fire.
Thus, whoever asserts—like some of the Muʿtazilah—that the people of major sins will remain in the Fire forever, interpreting the verse to mean that only the forerunners will enter Paradise while the moderate or those who wrong themselves will not, is opposed by the interpretation of the Murjiʾah, who do not hold it certain that any major sinner will enter the Fire at all and claim that such sinners may enter
