—to the Fire.’
As for the religious sense, He says:
‘For each of you We have appointed a law and a clear path.’
And He also says:
‘Allah has not appointed bahirah, sāʾibah, waṣīlah, or hām.’
[On the terms taḥrīm and kalimāt]
With respect to the word taḥrīm (prohibition), in the cosmic realm He says:
‘We had already forbidden wet-nurses for him beforehand,’
and He says:
‘Indeed, it is forbidden to them for forty years; they shall wander through the land.’
Regarding the religious realm He says:
‘Forbidden to you are carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, and whatever has been dedicated to other than Allah,’
and He says:
‘Forbidden to you are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal aunts, your maternal aunts, the daughters of your brother, and the daughters of your sister,’ and so on.
As for the word kalimāt (words), concerning the cosmic usage He says:
‘She affirmed the words of her Lord and His scriptures.’
It is authentically reported in the Ṣaḥīḥ that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—used to say:
‘I seek refuge in all of Allah’s perfect words from the evil of what He has created, from His wrath and His punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whisperings of the devils and from their presence.’
