and Allah wishes to lighten your burden, for humankind was created weak.

[The Command]

After mentioning what He had enjoined upon the Prophet’s wives, blessings and peace be upon him, and what He had forbidden them, He said:

“Allah only intends to remove impurity from you, O People of the Household, and to purify you completely.”

That is, He has commanded you with what drives away impurity, O People of the Household, and purifies you thoroughly; whoever obeys His command is purified and freed from impurity, unlike the one who disobeys.

As for the command (amr) itself, concerning the cosmic command He says:

“Our only word to a thing, when We will it, is to say to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.”

He, the Exalted, also says:

“Our command is but a single act, like the blink of an eye.”

And He says:

“Our command came upon it by night or by day, and We made it a harvested field, as though it had not flourished the day before.”

With regard to the religious command He, Most High, says:

“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives; and He forbids obscenity, evil, and transgression. He admonishes you so that you may take heed.”

And He says:

“Allah commands you to render trusts to their owners, and when you judge between people, judge with justice. Excellent indeed is the exhortation He gives you; truly Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing.”
