Al-Furqān bayna Awliyāʾ al-Raḥmān wa-Awliyāʾ al-ShayṭānIbn Taimiya

It is related in Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“O people, repent to your Lord. By the One in whose hand is my soul, I seek Allah’s forgiveness and repent to Him more than 70 times each day.”

Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim likewise records that he said:

“Sometimes a veil comes over my heart, and I indeed seek Allah’s forgiveness 100 times in a single day.”

In the Sunan collections Ibn ʿUmar reports:

“We used to count in one sitting that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would say, ‘My Lord, forgive me and pardon me; You are indeed the Ever-Relenting, the Merciful,’ 100 times”—

or, in another wording, “more than 100 times.”

Allah, exalted is He, has further instructed His servants to seal their righteous deeds
