Just as the Exalted couples guidance (hudā) with mindfulness of Him (taqwā) and misguidance with deviance, He likewise pairs guidance with mercy and misguidance with misery.
Among the first category is His saying: “Such are upon guidance from their Lord, and such are the ones who prosper.” ⦗Luqmān: 5⦘.
He also says: “It is they upon whom descend blessings from their Lord and mercy; it is they who are truly guided.” ⦗al-Baqarah: 157⦘.
Regarding the believers He says: “Our Lord, do not cause our hearts to swerve after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself; indeed, You are the Bestower.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān: 8⦘.
The People of the Cave said: “Our Lord, grant us mercy from Yourself and dispose for us, in our affair, right guidance.” ⦗al-Kahf: 10⦘.
He, the Most High, says: “Indeed, in their stories there is a lesson for people of insight. It is not an invented tale; rather, it is a confirmation of what came before it, a detailed exposition of everything, and guidance and mercy for a people who believe.” ⦗Yūsuf: 111⦘.
He says: “We have not sent down to you the Book except that you may clarify to them that over which they differ, and as guidance and mercy for a people who believe.” ⦗an-Naḥl: 64⦘.
He also says: “We have revealed to you the Book as an explanation of all things, and as guidance, mercy, and glad tidings for those who submit.” ⦗an-Naḥl: 89⦘.
And He says: “O mankind, there has come to you an exhortation from your Lord and a healing for what is in the breasts…” ⦗Yūnus: 57⦘.
