will be his sluggishness in obeying Allah and in seeking the Hereafter.
To inspire detachment from this world it is enough to ponder His words:
“Have you considered: if We allow them enjoyment for many years, then there comes to them what they were promised, what good will their years of enjoyment do them?” ⦗205–207⦘
He, the Exalted, also says:
“On the Day He gathers them, it will seem to them as though they had stayed only an hour of the day, merely recognizing one another.” ⦗45⦘
And He says:
“When they behold what they were promised, it will appear to them as though they had stayed only an hour of the day. This is a sufficient message—so will anyone be destroyed except a defiantly disobedient people?” ⦗35⦘
And He, the Exalted, says:
“They ask you about the Hour—‘When will it be set?’ What concern of yours is its mention? Its final knowledge rests with your Lord. You are only a warner to those who fear it. On the Day they see it, they will feel as though they had stayed no longer than an evening or its morning.” ⦗42–46⦘
He also says:
“On the Day the Hour is established, the guilty will swear that they remained no more than an hour.” ⦗55⦘
And His words, the Exalted:
“He will say, ‘How many years did you remain on earth?’ They will answer, ‘We remained a day, or part of a day; ask those who kept count.’ He will say, ‘You stayed only a little—if only you had known.’” ⦗112–114⦘
And His words:
“The Day the Trumpet is blown We shall gather the sinners, blue of eye. They will whisper among themselves, ‘You remained no more than ten days.’ We know best what they will say; the most careful among them will say, ‘You remained no more than a single day.’” ⦗102–104⦘
Allah is the One whose help is sought, and on Him alone we rely.
