And there are many other instances, scattered throughout the commentary, in which he simply followed earlier exegetes who transmitted reports from the Isrāʾīliyyāt without verifying their accuracy, especially when dealing with the creation of the heavens and the earth, or with the explanation of verses that touch on natural phenomena or hint at scientific matters. In this the author—may Allah have mercy on him—has ample excuse, for he merely reflected the learning of his age and what circulated on the tongues of scholars in his day.
Once the Press had become convinced of the public’s need for this work and of the desire of many scholars across the Muslim world to see it widely disseminated, it resolved to issue a new printing so that benefit might reach further. The reader will notice that we have taken care to make this edition correspond to the previous one in its parts, pages, and numbering, except for slight differences that can readily be detected on the page that precedes or follows.
We have also drawn attention in the present edition to a point that was overlooked in the former: whenever the author uses the phrase “as will be explained later,” we indicate in a footnote the exact location of that explanation in the book, so that the reader may pursue his study and link the discussion together without effort or difficulty.
I must not fail to acknowledge the merit of my esteemed colleagues who joined me in proofreading this work during its first printing, beginning with volume four. They are: Shaykh Ibrāhīm Aṭfīsh, Shaykh Bashandī Khalaf Allah, and Shaykh Muḥammad Muḥammad Ḥasanayn.
We ask Allah to make this noble tafsīr beneficial, to reward its author with the best recompense, to assist all those who devote themselves to publishing the Islamic heritage embodied in great works such as this, and to grant the Press success in fulfilling its mission, that it may shoulder this heavy task and present to the whole world the finest legacy left by those who came before. May blessings and peace be upon our master Muḥammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
