or that he would consign to cultural symposia, or the fatwas (legal opinions) he issued in reply to those seeking a ruling.
This has been the governing condition of the entire project: every book included had to meet it. Accordingly, we have omitted non-verbatim student notes such as The Exegesis of Sūrah Hūd and Sūrah al-Nūr, prepared by al-Ahdal; the marginalia jotted down during lessons and lectures; the works of extraction and arrangement compiled from the Shaykh’s words and writings, such as The Quintessence of Juristic Principles by al-Sudeis and similar efforts; and incomplete works, for example his Treatise on Grammar and the like. We have likewise excluded all completions of works the Shaykh himself left unfinished—among them the Supplement to Adwāʾ al-Bayān by Shaykh ʿAṭiyyah Sālim, corresponding to the eighth and ninth printed volumes, and the Supplement to Sharḥ al-Marāqī prepared by some of his students, which comments on roughly 160 verses.
In light of this, the books admitted to the present project—in the order in which they appear—are:
- Adwāʾ al-Bayān fī Īḍāḥ al-Qurʾān bil-Qurʾān (1-7).
- al-ʿAdhb al-Namīr min Majālis al-Shinqīṭī fī al-Tafsīr (1-5).
- Dafʿ Īhām al-Iḍṭirāb ʿan Āyāt al-Kitāb.
- Manʿ Jawāz al-Majāz fī al-Munazzal li’l-Taʿabbud wa’l-Iʿjāz.
- Sharḥ Marāqī al-Suʿūd, published under the title Nathr al-Wurūd (1-2).
- Muthakkirah fī Uṣūl al-Fiqh ʿalā Rawḍat al-Nāẓir.
- Ādāb al-Baḥth wa’l-Munāẓarah.
- Rihlat al-Ḥajj ilā Bayt Allāh al-Ḥarām.
