Work Plan for the Collected Works of Shaykh Muḥammad al-Amin al-Shanqiti
All praise is due to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and brought forth darkness and light; yet those who disbelieve set up equals to their Lord. Praise is also due to Allah, for no act of thanking any of His favors can be completed except through another favor from Him, which in turn obliges the grateful servant to render fresh thanks for that new blessing. Those who describe Him can never grasp the essence of His greatness; He is as He has described Himself—exalted far above what His creatures may say of Him.
I praise Him with a praise befitting the generosity of His Countenance and the majesty of His glory. I seek His help as one who has no power or strength except through Him. I ask Him for guidance by means of the guidance He bestows—guidance that leaves no one astray once granted—and I seek His forgiveness for what I have done and for what I have delayed, the plea of a servant who acknowledges his servitude and knows that none forgives or delivers him from his sins but He alone.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger (1).
