5 – Travel for the sake of calling people to Allah. In 1385 AH the Shaykh—may Allah have mercy on him—led a delegation from the Islamic University to ten African countries, beginning with Sudan and ending with Mauritania. The journey teemed with lessons, lectures, scholarly gatherings, and fruitful discussions, and lasted for more than two months. Those lectures were recorded on several tapes, later transcribed, carefully edited, and published within this project under the title “Journey to Africa.”
6 – Teaching at the Higher Institute of the Judiciary from its opening in 1386 AH in Riyadh. The institute then operated by inviting visiting professors, so the Shaykh would travel there to deliver the required lectures in Qur’anic exegesis and the principles of jurisprudence.
7 – On 8/7/1391 AH the Council of Senior Scholars was formed with seventeen members, and the Shaykh—may Allah have mercy on him—was among them.
8 – The Shaykh—may Allah have mercy on him—also served on the Founding Council of the Muslim World League.
Tenth: His Asceticism and Scrupulous Piety
A truly learned person is one whose knowledge makes him fear Allah and remain mindful of Him, steering clear of the antics of the foolish who scramble after the world, claw over it, and allow it to distract them from Allah and the Hereafter. Indeed, one’s amazement only grows when he reflects upon the state of the Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him).
