– We subjected it to three thorough rounds of proofreading and revision.
Lectures:
– Under this heading we gathered every lecture we were able to locate that the Shaykh delivered or dictated during the cultural seasons at the Islamic University—five in all—and then appended (A Legal Opinion on the Prohibition of Mixed-Gender Education) and (An Explanation of al-Suyūṭī’s Verses on the Abrogating and Abrogated Verses) [*].
– In editing those lectures and their appendices we relied on the earliest printed editions, with two exceptions: the lecture entitled (Methodology and Studies Concerning the Verses of the Divine Names and Attributes), for which we obtained an audio recording that served as our base text; and (The Prohibition of Mixed-Gender Education), for which we used a computer-typed copy.
– Consult the introduction to (Lectures) for further details.
After all this, the project now comprises 19 volumes: seven for (al-Aḍwāʾ), five for (al-ʿAdhb al-Namīr), two for (Sharḥ al-Marāqī), one for (the Muḏakkira), one combining two books—(Dafʿ al-Īhām) and (Manʿ Jawāz al-Majāz)—one for (Ādāb al-Baḥth), one for (Riḥlat al-Ḥajj), and one that brings together three works: (The Journey to Africa), the Fatwas—five in number—and the Lectures—seven in total [*].
We had hoped to prepare an extensive, fitting biography of Shaykh al-Amīn, to be written by his student—our teacher, the eminent scholar Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh Abū Zayd, the project’s general supervisor—but various factors prevented this. Accordingly, we contented ourselves with the concise biography penned by Shaykh Khālid al-Sabt at the beginning of (al-ʿAdhb al-Namīr), adding a few supplementary notes.
