paragraphs that facilitate comprehension and arrange its ideas and subjects, while taking care not to overdo the matter, and we corrected the confusion that had slipped in.
– Among the measures we took was to begin every verse the Shaykh explicates with a new paragraph, preceded by an asterisk (*).
– We re-examined many of the passages the Shaykh quotes from his sources whenever a difficulty presented itself.
– We made no alterations to the book’s text—such as substitution or the like—unless we were certain of an error, and we reduced the use of square or round brackets when inserting foreign matter to an absolute minimum.
– If we could not ascertain the correct reading of a phrase, we left it as it was and pointed this out in a footnote.
– We gave care to punctuation, avoiding both excess and deficiency.
• Mudhakkirah in Uṣūl al-Fiqh:
– For collation we relied on the Salafi edition printed during the Shaykh’s lifetime in 1391 AH.
– We corrected the work in the same manner described under Aḍwāʾ al-Bayān.
– We also benefited from certain emendations found in other editions.
– Wherever the Shaykh comments on a passage, we referred the reader to Rawdat al-Nāẓir (1) and placed the text of the Rawḍah within large, bold brackets to distinguish it.
