sacrificial animals (1) among the Companions. Others, including our teacher Abū al-‘Abbās (2), rejected this view, saying: “Anyone who reflects on the widely transmitted authentic hadiths will see clearly that neither the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, nor anyone who had brought sacrificial animals came out of ihram.”

The Grounds for the Views of Those Who Erred in Describing His Hajj
As for those who say that he performed Hajj alone, without combining it with ‘umrah, their basis is the report in the two Sahīh collections (3) in which ‘Ā’ishah said:
“We set out with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, in the year of the Farewell Hajj. Some of us entered ihram for ‘umrah, some for Hajj and ‘umrah, and some for Hajj. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entered ihram for Hajj.”
They said: “This division into distinct categories explicitly indicates that he entered ihram for Hajj alone.”
Muslim also reports (4) from her that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entered ihram for Hajj alone.
In Sahīh al-Bukhārī (5), Ibn ‘Umar reports that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, recited the pilgrimage invocation (6) for Hajj alone.
In Sahīh Muslim (7), Ibn ‘Abbās reports: “The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entered ihram for Hajj.”
