Five groups have erred concerning the Prophet’s ‘umrah pilgrimages, may Allah bless him and grant him peace:
The first consists of those who say that he performed ‘umrah in Rajab. This is mistaken, for his ‘umrah pilgrimages are precisely recorded and reliably preserved. He never set out in Rajab for any of them.
The second consists of those who say that he performed ‘umrah in Shawwāl. This too is a mistake (1). It appears—and Allah knows best—that one of the narrators erred here: the Prophet observed a devotional retreat in Shawwāl, but the narrator said, “He performed ‘umrah in Shawwāl.” However, the context of the hadith and its wording, “He performed three ‘umrah pilgrimages: one in Shawwāl and two in Dhū al-Qa‘dah,” indicate that ‘Ā’ishah, or a narrator after her in the chain, did indeed mean ‘umrah.
The third consists of those who say that he performed ‘umrah from al-Tan‘īm after his Hajj. No scholar has said this; it is merely an assumption held by ordinary people and those unfamiliar with the Sunnah.
The fourth consists of those who say that he did not (2) perform ‘umrah at all during his Hajj. The authentic, widely transmitted Sunnah, which cannot be rejected, disproves this view.
The fifth consists of those who say that he performed ‘umrah, left ihram upon completing it, and then entered ihram for Hajj from Mecca. The authentic hadiths invalidate and refute this view.

Five groups have also erred concerning his Hajj:
The first group consists of those who say that he performed Hajj alone, without ‘umrah accompanying it.
