The eighth is what Abū Dāwūd related (1) from al-Barā’ ibn ‘Āzib, who said: I was with ‘Alī when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed him to govern Yemen, and I acquired several ūqiyyahs (units of weight) while with him. When ‘Alī returned from Yemen to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he said:
“I found Fātimah wearing dyed garments (2), and she had sprinkled the house with perfume. She said, ‘What is the matter with you? “I was sitting with ‘Uthmān when he heard ‘Alī reciting the talbiyah for both Hajj and ‘umrah. He asked, ‘Was this not forbidden?’ ‘Alī replied, ‘Yes, but I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, reciting the talbiyah for both together, so I would not abandon the words of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for yours.’”
