The third was the ‘umrah he combined with his Hajj. He performed Hajj and ‘umrah together, as established by more than ten pieces of evidence that we shall mention shortly, Allah willing.
The fourth was his ‘umrah from al-Ji‘rānah. After setting out for Hunayn, he returned to Mecca, entering it to perform ‘umrah from al-Ji‘rānah. In the two Sahīh collections (1), Anas ibn Mālik said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed four ‘umrahs, all in Dhū al-Qa‘dah except the one performed with his Hajj: an ‘umrah from al-Hudaybiyyah—or at the time of al-Hudaybiyyah—in Dhū al-Qa‘dah; an ‘umrah the following year in Dhū al-Qa‘dah; an ‘umrah from al-Ji‘rānah, where he distributed the spoils of Hunayn, in Dhū al-Qa‘dah; and an ‘umrah with his Hajj (2).”
This does not contradict the report in the two Sahīh collections (3) from al-Barā’ ibn ‘Āzib, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed ‘umrah twice in Dhū al-Qa‘dah before performing Hajj.”
He meant the separate, independent ‘umrahs that were completed, and there is no doubt that there were two of these. The ‘umrah combined with Hajj was not independent, while he was barred from the ‘umrah of al-Hudaybiyyah and prevented (4) from completing it. Likewise, Ibn ‘Abbās said:
“The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, performed four ‘umrahs: the ‘umrah of al-Hudaybiyyah; ‘Umrat al-Qadā’ the following year; the third from al-Ji‘rānah; and the fourth with his Hajj.”
Imam Ahmad recorded this (5).
