Zād al-MaʿādIbn al-Qayyim

He replied: ‘This is an error on Qabīsah’s part.’ I asked Yahyā about Qabīsah ibn 'Uqbah, and he said: ‘He is a truthful man (1), and the hadith he narrates from Sufyān, from Sa'īd ibn Jubayr, is an error on his part.’”

Ahmad said: “In al-Ashja'ī’s book, it is narrated from Sa'īd ibn Jubayr with an interrupted chain: ‘The Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping while in a state of ritual consecration.’ It does not mention ‘fasting.’”

Muhannā said (2): “I also asked Ahmad about the hadith of Ibn 'Abbās stating that the Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping while fasting and in a state of ritual consecration. He replied: ‘It does not say “fasting”; it only says “in a state of ritual consecration.” Sufyān related it from 'Amr ibn Dīnār, from Tāwūs (3), from Ibn 'Abbās: “The Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping on his head while in a state of ritual consecration” (4).

‘And 'Abd al-Razzāq (5) related it from Ma'mar, from Ibn Khuthaym, from Sa'īd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbās: “The Prophet ﷺ underwent cupping while in a state of ritual consecration.” And Rawh related it from Zakariyyā ibn Ishāq, from

Ahmad (1923), al-Bukhārī (5695), and Muslim (1202) also narrated it through Sufyān, from ‘Amr ibn Dīnār, from ‘Atā’ and Tāwūs, from Ibn ‘Abbās, may Allah be pleased with them both. Neither of the two versions mentions the head. (5) I have not found it through this route. Ahmad (3075), al-Dārimī (1860), and al-Tabarānī (12476, 12477) narrate it through al-Thawrī, from Ibn Khuthaym (‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Uthmān), with this chain.
