al-Nasā’ī (1): ‘Sadaqa is of no standing as a narrator, and this hadith is rejected.’
As for the hadith of Abū Sayyāra al-Muta‘ī, it is narrated from him by Sulaymān ibn Mūsā. Al-Bukhārī said (2): ‘Sulaymān ibn Mūsā was not a contemporary of any of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.’
As for the other hadith of ‘Amr ibn Shu‘ayb, stating that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, collected a tithe on honey, its chain includes Usāma ibn Zayd (3), who narrates it from ‘Amr. They consider him weak. Ibn Ma‘īn said (4): ‘All three sons of Zayd are of no standing as narrators.’ Al-Tirmidhī said (5): ‘None of the sons of Zayd ibn Aslam is trustworthy.’
As for the hadith narrated by al-Zuhrī from Abū Salama, from Abū Hurayra, how clearly it would establish the point, were it not for ‘Abd Allāh ibn Muharrar (6), who narrates it from al-Zuhrī (7)! Al-Bukhārī said concerning this hadith (8): ‘The hadiths of ‘Abd Allāh ibn Muharrar are abandoned, and no authentic report establishes zakat on honey.’
