(3/ 738): “For I shall retain my share from Khaybar. Reported by Abū Dāwūd.” The al-Risāla edition (3/ 513) reads: “my share that is in Khaybar,” contrary to the manuscripts and Abū Dāwūd’s wording. This is the opposite of what the two editors promised: to make the hadith text conform to its wording in the sources.
-
(5/ 10): “And execution for treacherous murder is a prescribed penalty that does not require the consent of the victim’s next of kin.” The words “a prescribed penalty” were omitted from the al-Risāla edition (5/ 8), disrupting the sense of the passage.
-
(5/ 61): “And ‘Alī said: A wall is to be brought down on both of them.” Following the earlier editions, the al-Risāla edition (5/ 37) reads: “brought down on him,” contrary to the manuscripts.
-
(5/ 122): “He used to spend from the spoils obtained without fighting that Allah had granted him.” This is the reading in the manuscripts. Without justification, the al-Risāla edition (5/ 77) changed it to: “He used to spend from what Allah had granted him.”
-
(5/ 127): “Nor do I detain couriers; rather, return.” Following the al-Fiqī edition, the al-Risāla edition (5/ 80) added “to your people” after this. These words appear in none of the manuscripts, nor in the sources of the hadith!
-
(5/ 178): “Ibn ‘Umar and other Companions understood this verse to include women of the People of the Book.” The al-Risāla edition (5/ 117) reads: “‘Umar understood …”—an error contrary to the manuscripts.
-
(5/ 249): “Neither a free man’s services, nor his knowledge, nor his teaching may serve as a bridal dower.” In the al-Risāla edition (5/ 163), “a free man’s services” was corrupted to “other services,” distorting the meaning.
