(3/ 270): “Whoever supposes that He is not above His heavens … and that saying ‘Glory be to my Lord, the Lowest’ is equivalent to saying ‘Glory be to my Lord, the Most High’ = has entertained the ugliest and worst thoughts about Him.” The word “not” was omitted from the opening of this passage in the al-Risāla edition (3/ 208), reversing and corrupting the meaning. The underlined passage was also omitted, although both appear in the al-Fiqī edition (2/ 260).
-
(3/ 288): “Al-Mundhir ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Uqba.” In the al-Risāla edition (3/ 222), this was corrupted to “al-Mundhir ibn ‘Uqba ibn ‘Āmir,” contrary to the manuscripts, the al-Fiqī edition, and the accounts of the Prophet’s military campaigns. No Companion by this name exists at all!
-
(3/ 294): “And when some of them realized this.” This was corrupted to “And when some of them did not realize” (3/ 226), with the addition of “not,” reversing the meaning.
-
(3/ 426): “Al-Zubayr ibn al-‘Awwām stepped forward to face him and killed him.” The words “Then another stepped forward, and he killed him” were interpolated after this (3/ 314). They appear in none of the manuscripts, nor in the author’s source, Dalā’il al-Nubuwwa (Proofs of Prophethood).
-
(3/ 542): “The harm caused by his openly insulting our Prophet.” The al-Risāla edition (3/ 387), following the al-Fiqī edition, reads: “The harm caused by preventing his doing so openly”—an interpolation that corrupts the meaning.
-
(3/ 648): “He did not distribute Hātim’s household until he brought them to Medina.” The al-Risāla edition (3/ 452), following the al-Fiqī edition, reads: “He did not distribute anything among Hātim’s household …”—an addition that reverses the meaning.
-
(3/ 733): “He continued assigning stipends.” This was misread as “They continued to be presented” (3/ 509).
