‘Abd Allāh ibn ‘Umar: “If I were to offer voluntary prayers, I would pray in full” (1).
It is established that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed eight rak‘ahs in the forenoon on the day of the Conquest (2), although he was travelling at the time.
As for the report narrated by Abū Dāwūd (3) in his Sunan (4), through al-Layth, from Safwān ibn Sulaym, from Abū Busrah al-Ghifārī, from al-Barā’ ibn ‘Āzib, who said: “I travelled with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on eighteen journeys, and never saw him omit two rak‘ahs before Zuhr, when the sun passed its zenith.” Al-Tirmidhī (5) said: “This is a singular hadith.” He further said: “I asked Muhammad about it. He knew it only through the narration of al-Layth ibn Sa‘d, did not know Abū Busrah’s name, and considered the hadith good.” End of quotation. Busrah (6) is spelled with a single-dotted bā’ (b) bearing the vowel u, followed by an undotted sīn (s) with no vowel (7).
As for the hadith of ‘Ā’ishah stating that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would never omit four rak‘ahs before Zuhr and two rak‘ahs
