(4/ 107): “As in his words to Abū Burda: ‘It will suffice for you, but it will not suffice for anyone after you.’” Al-Fiqī (3/ 186) added after “to Abū Burda”: “concerning his sacrifice of a young goat.” The al-Risāla edition (4/ 71) has the same addition, contrary to its manuscript source.

(4/ 110): The manuscripts read: “Every group answers it … As for those who deny wise purposes and underlying reasons, having rejected the very principle of underlying reasons, they have no need to answer.” Al-Fiqī (3/ 188) changed the two verbs to rafa‘ū (“they rejected”) and lam yahtājū (“they had no need”). The al-Risāla edition (4/ 73), however, vocalized the first verb in the passive: rufi‘at (“was rejected”), and followed al-Fiqī in the second. The reading in its manuscript source and the other handwritten and printed copies is correct: the author used feminine forms for both verbs with reference to the word tā’ifa (“group”).
-
(4/ 112): “A hot swelling that occurs in the membrane.” After “occurs,” the al-Risāla edition (4/ 74) adds “in the region of the side,” following earlier editions. This addition is absent from its manuscript source and the other copies. On the same page, the al-Risāla edition reads: “Thus it is thought to stem from this ailment, though it does not stem from it.” The words “from it” are an addition made by al-Fiqī alone.
-
(4/ 119): “Because of the connection through the nerve.” This is the reading in all the manuscripts and early editions. Al-Fiqī changed it to “because of the nerve’s connection,” and the al-Risāla edition (4/ 79) followed him, contrary to its manuscript source.

(4/ 148): “Fruit harms those recovering from illness because it quickly undergoes transformation and the body’s natural faculty is too weak to expel it, for its strength has not yet become firmly established.” The al-Risāla edition (4/ 96) reads: “for it has not yet gained command of its strength,” contrary to its manuscript source and following Shaykh al-Fiqī (3/ 205), who altered the author’s wording in a way that destroyed its meaning.
