Zād al-MaʿādIbn al-Qayyim

He would sometimes step down from the pulpit when a need arose, then return and complete the sermon, as when he stepped down for (1) al-Hasan and al-Husayn, picked them up, then ascended (2) the pulpit with them and completed the sermon (3).

(1) Qāf, Mīm, Mīm-Bā’, and Nūn read: “li-akhdh” (to pick up). (2) In all witnesses except Sād and Jīm, it is spelled “raqā” (ascended). (3) Reported by Ahmad (22995), Abū Dāwūd (1109), al-Tirmidhī (4108), al-Nasā’ī in al-Mujtabā (1413, 1585) and al-Kubrā (1743, 1803, 1804), and al-Bayhaqī (3:218), from Burayda ibn al-Husayb al-Aslamī. Al-Tirmidhī graded it as good (hasan). It was authenticated by Ibn Khuzayma (1456, 1801, 1802), Ibn Hibbān (6038), al-Hākim (1:287), and al-Albānī in Sahīh Abī Dāwūd—al-Umm (4:272).
