Twenty-ninth: Friday is Allah’s chosen day of the week, just as Ramadan is His chosen month of the year, the Night of Decree His chosen night, Mecca His chosen place on earth, and Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—His chosen one among His creation.
Ādam ibn Abī Iyās (1) said: Shaybān (2), Abū Mu‘āwiyah, narrated to us from ‘Āsim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Abū Sālih, from Ka‘b al-Ahbār, who said:
“Allah, Mighty and Majestic, chose from among the months and selected Ramadan; He chose from among the days and selected Friday; He chose from among the nights and selected the Night of Decree; and He chose from among the hours and selected the times of prayer. Friday expiates the sins committed between it and the next Friday, with three additional days. Ramadan expiates the sins committed between it and the next Ramadan. Hajj expiates the sins committed between it and the next Hajj. Umrah expiates the sins committed between it and the next Umrah. A man dies between two good deeds: one he has performed and another he awaits—meaning two prayers. The devils are chained during Ramadan, the gates of Hell are closed, and the gates of Paradise are opened. Throughout Ramadan, it is proclaimed: ‘O seeker of good, come forward!’ There are no nights during which deeds are more beloved to Allah than the ten nights.”
