‘Abd Allāh ibn Mas‘ūd to Friday prayer. He found that three men had arrived before him and said: “The fourth of four—and the fourth of four is not far behind!” Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “On the Day of Resurrection, people will sit near Allah according to the order in which they went to Friday prayer: the first, then the second, then the third, then the fourth.” He said: “And the fourth of four is not far behind.”

Al-Dāraqutnī (1) said: Ahmad ibn Salmān ibn al-Hasan narrated to us; Muhammad ibn ‘Uthmān ibn Muhammad narrated to us; Marwān ibn Ja‘far (2) narrated to us; Nāfi‘ Abū al-Hasan, the freedman of Banū Hāshim, narrated to us; ‘Atā’ ibn Abī Maymūnah narrated to us, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “On the Day of Resurrection, the believers will see their Lord. Those whose sight of Him is most recent (3) will see Him every Friday, while believing women will see Him on the day of Eid al-Fitr and the day of Eid al-Adhā.”

He said: And (4) Muhammad ibn Nūh narrated to us; Mūsā (5) ibn Sufyān al-Sukkarī narrated to us, saying: We were told by

(1) In Kitāb al-Ru’yah (The Book of the Vision), no. (56). Its chain includes Marwān ibn Ja‘far, who has some weakness as a narrator, and Nāfi‘ Abū al-Hasan, for whom I have found neither a biographical entry nor an identification. Al-Fiqī added “fī Kitāb al-Ru’yah (in the Book of the Vision)” to the main text, as did the al-Risālah edition. (2) Manuscript Jīm reads “Hafs,” a copying error. (3) The printed editions add after this: “man bakkara (whoever arrives early).” This does not appear in the manuscripts or in al-Dāraqutnī’s book. (4) Manuscripts Kāf and ‘Ayn read “wa-qāla (and he said).” This is absent from Qāf, Mīm, and Mīm-Bā’. (5) The printed editions read “Muhammad ibn Mūsā,” which is an error.

عبد الله بن مسعود إلى جمعة، فوجد ثلاثةً قد سبقوه، فقال: رابع أربعة، وما رابعُ أربعة ببعيد! ثم قال: إنِّي سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: «إن الناس يجلسون يوم القيامة من الله على قدر رَواحهم إلى الجمعة: الأول، ثم الثاني، ثم الثالث، ثم الرابع». قال: «وما رابعُ أربعةٍ ببعيد». وقال الدارقطني (١): ثنا أحمد بن سلمان بن الحسن، ثنا محمد بن عثمان بن محمد، ثنا مروان بن جعفر (٢)، ثنا نافع أبو الحسن مولى بني هاشم، ثنا عطاء بن أبي ميمونة، عن أنس بن مالك قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: «إذا كان يومُ القيامة رأى المؤمنون ربَّهم، فأحدثهم عهدًا بالنظر إليه (٣) في كلِّ جمعة، وتراه المؤمنات يوم الفطر ويوم النحر». قال: و (٤) حدثنا محمد بن نوح، ثنا موسى (٥) بن سفيان السُّكَّري، ثنا
