al-Zuhrī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, set out on a journey on Friday in the forenoon, before the prayer.
He also cited (1) a report from Ma‘mar, who said: I asked Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr: “May a man set out on Friday?” He disliked it, so I began relating to him reports permitting it. He said to me: “Rarely does a man set out on Friday without encountering something he dislikes. If you examined the matter, you would find it so.”
Ibn al-Mubārak cited (2) a report from al-Awzā‘ī, from Hassān ibn ‘Atiyya (3), who said: “When a man travels on Friday, the day itself invokes against him that he receive no help in accomplishing his purpose and have no company on his journey.” Al-Awzā‘ī also related from Ibn al-Musayyib that he said: “Travel on Friday is after the prayer.”
Ibn Jurayj said (4): I asked ‘Atā’: “Have you heard that it used to be said: ‘If evening finds a man in a settlement where Friday prayer is held, on the eve of Friday, he should not leave until he has performed the Friday prayer’?” He replied: “Leaving then is indeed disliked.” I asked: “What about leaving on Thursday?” He replied: “No; that is during the daytime, so it does him no harm.”
Seventeenth: For every step taken by someone walking to Friday prayer, he receives the reward of fasting for a year
