until he prays’?”
In Sahīh Ibn Hibbān (1), a narration traced back to the Prophet states:
“The sun does not rise on any day better than Friday.”
In Musnad al-Shāfiʿī (2), Anas ibn Mālik narrated: Gabriel came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a white mirror bearing a spot. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “What is this?”
He replied, “This is Friday, through which you and your community have been favored. Other people—the Jews and Christians—follow you in this regard. It holds goodness for you, and on it (3) there is an hour during which no believer (4) asks Allah for something good without receiving an answer. Among us, it is the Day of Increase.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “Gabriel, what is the Day of Increase?”
He replied, “Your Lord has established a spacious valley in Paradise, containing mounds of musk. When Friday comes, Allah, glorified and exalted, sends down as many of His angels as He wills. Around Him are pulpits of light, with seats for the prophets. He surrounds these pulpits with pulpits of gold adorned with rubies and chrysolite, upon which are the martyrs and those foremost in truthfulness. They then sit behind them on those mounds. Allah, mighty and majestic, says, ‘I am your Lord. I have fulfilled My promise to you, so ask Me, and I shall grant you.’
