It is fabricated, and ‘Umar ibn Subh is suspected of fabricating it. Al-Bukhārī said (1): Yahyā ibn ‘Alī ibn Jarīr (2) narrated to me: I heard ‘Umar ibn Subh say, “I fabricated the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) sermon.” Ibn ‘Adī said (3): “His hadiths are rejected.” Ibn Hibbān said (4): “He fabricates hadiths and attributes them to trustworthy narrators. It is not permissible to write down his hadiths except to marvel at them.” Al-Dāraqutnī said (5): “He is abandoned as a narrator.” Al-Azdī said (6): “He is a liar.”
The same applies to the hadith transmitted by ‘Abd al-‘Azīz ibn Abān, from al-Thawrī, from Hajjāj ibn Furāfisah, from Makhūl, from Abū Hurayrah, and traced back to the Prophet: “Whoever regularly offers two rak‘ahs of the midmorning prayer will have his sins forgiven, even if they are as numerous as locusts and exceed the foam of the sea.” It was cited by
