ten, and another twelve= each of them thus reported what he had seen and heard.
He said: The evidence supporting our view is the report from Zayd ibn Aslam, who said: I heard Abdullah ibn Umar say to Abū Dharr, “Advise me, uncle.” He replied: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, just as you have asked me, and he said:
“Whoever offers two rak'ahs of the midmorning prayer will not be recorded among the heedless; whoever offers four will be recorded among the worshippers; whoever offers six, no sin will attach to him that day; whoever offers eight will be recorded among the devout; and whoever offers ten, Allah will build him a house in Paradise.” (1)
Mujāhid (2) said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, offered two rak'ahs of the midmorning prayer one day, then four on another day, then six on another day, then eight on another day, and then ceased.
This report thus demonstrates the soundness of what we have said: each of the narrators whose statements were mentioned earlier (3) may have reported only as much of the midmorning prayer as he personally saw and witnessed.
