Zād al-MaʿādIbn al-Qayyim
  • peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever remains seated in his prayer place after finishing the dawn prayer until he performs the two rak‘ahs of the midmorning prayer, saying only what is good= will have his sins forgiven (1), even if (2) they are like the foam of the sea.”

In al-Tirmidhī and Sunan Ibn Mājah (3), Abū Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Whoever regularly observes the two rak‘ahs of the midmorning prayer will have his sins forgiven, even if they are like the foam of the sea.”

In al-Musnad and al-Sunan (4), Nu‘aym ibn Hammār said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: ‘Son of Adam, do not fail to offer Me (5) four rak‘ahs at the beginning of the day, and I shall take care of you for the rest of it.’” Al-Tirmidhī also narrated it (6) from Abū al-Dardā’ and Abū Dharr.

(1) J and Mb read “ghafara Allāh (Allah forgave).” (2) K and ‘A read “wa-law (even if).” (3) Al-Tirmidhī (476) and Ibn Mājah (1382). Also transmitted by Ibn Abī Shaybah (7868), Ishāq ibn Rāhawayh (329, 462), Ahmad (9716), and ‘Abd ibn Humayd (1420). The hadith’s chains converge on al-Nahhās ibn Qahm, who is weak. Moreover, Shaddād ibn ‘Abd Allāh did not hear from Abū Hurayrah. The author will later explain in detail that it is fabricated. (4) Ahmad (22469–22475), Abū Dāwūd (1289), and al-Nasā’ī in al-Sunan al-kubrā (466, 467), through several chains from Nu‘aym ibn Hammār. Its chain of transmission has been reported in numerous conflicting forms. Al-Albānī nevertheless graded the hadith authentic in Sahīh Abī Dāwūd—al-Umm (5/33) and al-Irwā’ (2/216). For these discrepancies, see al-Musnad and al-Tārīkh al-kabīr (8/93, 94). (5) Mb reads “lā ta‘jizanna min (do not fail to perform …).” (6) No. 475, through Khālid ibn Ma‘dān, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abū al-Dardā’ and Abū Dharr. Al-Tirmidhī graded it hasan gharīb (fair and singly transmitted). Abū Nu‘aym also transmitted it in al-Hilyah (5/137). However, Tuhfat al-ashrāf (8/219) reads “from Abū al-Dardā’ or Abū Dharr,” expressing uncertainty. Ahmad (27480) and al-Tabarānī in Musnad al-Shāmiyyīn (964) transmitted it from Abū al-Dardā’ without uncertainty, through Shurayh ibn ‘Ubayd, who did not meet him. Nevertheless, al-Albānī graded it authentic on the combined strength of the two routes in al-Irwā’ (2/219). The preceding hadith of Nu‘aym ibn Hammār also corroborates it.
