Later, the hadith scholar Ibn Hajar (d. 852 AH) drew extensively on the book in “Fath al-Bārī”, occasionally taking issue with it. The relevant passages, together with their subjects, are: 2/353 (the distinctive characteristics of Friday), 2/548 (the eclipse prayer), 3/5 (the midmorning prayer), 5/336 (instances in which the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, swore an oath), 6/152 (which is preferable: accepting ransom or execution), 7/276 (fasting among the People of the Book), 7/311 (whether Murāra and Hilāl participated at Badr), 7/350 (whether the horsemen numbered fifty in the account of the archers), 7/394 (digging the trench for a month), 7/410 (the two groups in the account of Banū Qurayza), 8/82 (Abū Bakr’s pilgrimage), 8/128 (“The full moon has risen over us”), 8/734 (the interpretation of “and seek His forgiveness”), 9/170 (the Companions not having intimate relations with Jewish women), 10/156 (whether the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, underwent cauterization), 10/160 (reconciling the hadiths concerning contagion), 10/273 (the Prophet’s purchase of trousers, peace and blessings be upon him), 11/5 (the disapproval of initiating a greeting with “Upon you be peace”), 11/133 (supplication after prayer), 12/378 (Ishmael being the son designated for sacrifice), 13/486 (the ten errors in Sharīk’s narration of the Ascension) (first al-Salafiyya edition).
“‘Umdat al-Qārī” by al-‘Aynī (d. 855 AH) quotes from the book in one place: 14/19. Al-Qastallānī (d. 923 AH) explicitly acknowledged quoting from it in “Irshād al-Sārī” in a few places: 2/195; 8/43, 345, 364, 369, 371, 375; 9/200 (Būlāq edition). However, he drew extensively on it through “Fath al-Bārī”.
