He would direct his fingers towards the qiblah when raising his hands, bowing, prostrating, and reciting the tashahhud. He would also direct his toes towards the qiblah when prostrating. He would recite the salutations every two units of prayer.
There were seven points during the prayer at which he would supplicate.
The first: after the opening takbīr, at the point designated for the opening supplication.
The second: before bowing, after completing the recitation in the witr prayer, and during the occasional qunūt supplication (1) in the dawn prayer—if this is authentically established from him, for it is open to question (2).
The third: after rising fully from bowing, as established in Sahīh Muslim in the hadith of Abdullah ibn Abī Awfā: when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) raised his head from bowing, he would say:
“Allah hears whoever praises Him. O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise, filling the heavens, filling the earth, and filling whatever else You will. O Allah, purify me with snow, hail, and cold water. O Allah, purify me of sins and misdeeds as a white garment is cleansed of dirt.” (3)
The fourth: while bowing, he would say:
“Glory and praise be to You, O Allah, our Lord. O Allah, forgive me.” (4)
The fifth: while prostrating; it was then that he offered most of his supplications.
