It is also authentically reported that he would say during it:
“O Allah, wash me clean of my sins with water, snow, and hail; cleanse me of sins and misdeeds as You cleanse a white garment of dirt; and distance me from my sins as You have distanced the east from the west” (1).
It is authentically reported that he repeated (2) during it the words, “To my Lord belongs all praise, to my Lord belongs all praise,” continuing for as long as his bowing (3).
It is authentically reported that, when he raised his head from bowing, he would remain standing until someone would say, “He has forgotten,” so long did he prolong this part of the prayer. Thus Muslim (4) related from Anas: “Whenever the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace)
(1) Muslim (476) reported a similar version from ‘Abd Allāh ibn Abī Awfā, as did al-Bukhārī in al-Adab al-Mufrad (684), al-Tayālisī (863), Ahmad (19118), al-Nasā’ī (402), in abridged form, and Abū ‘Awāna (1849, 1848). It does not state that he said this after bowing, although that is mentioned in another transmission of Ibn Abī Awfā’s hadith. See Ibn Rajab’s Fath al-Bārī (5:78).
(2) In k: yukarrir (“would repeat”).
(3) Reported by Ahmad (23375), Abū Dāwūd (874), al-Tirmidhī in al-Shamā’il (275), and al-Nasā’ī in al-Mujtabā (1069, 1145) and al-Kubrā (660, 735, 1383), through Shu‘ba, from ‘Amr ibn Murra, from Abū Hamza, from a man of ‘Abs, from Hudhayfa. Following report (1383) in al-Kubrā, al-Nasā’ī said: “In our view—and Allah knows best—Abū Hamza is Talha ibn Yazīd, and this man appears to be Sila ibn Zufar.” Al-Nasā’ī and Ibn Hajar declared Talha ibn Yazīd trustworthy. Thus, the chain of transmission is sound. Al-Albānī graded the hadith authentic in Sahīh Abī Dāwūd—al-Umm (4:28–30). The underlying report appears in Muslim (772), through al-Mustawrid ibn al-Ahnaf, from Sila ibn Zufar, from Hudhayfa. It does not include the wording relevant here; instead, Muslim’s version reads: “Then he said: ‘Allah hears those who praise Him.’”
