and Ibn Ishāq’s accounts of the military campaigns as transmitted from him by Yūnus ibn Bukayr. Thus, the wording of the author’s quotations from Ibn Ishāq’s accounts sometimes differs from that in “Sīrat Ibn Hishām”: Ibn Hishām transmits them through Ziyād al-Bakkāʾī, whereas the author relied on Yūnus ibn Bukayr’s transmission from Ibn Ishāq, which al-Bayhaqī relates with its chain of transmission. See, for example, (3/ 332, 453). Here, the editors of the al-Risāla edition err by replacing the wording recorded by the author with Ibn Hishām’s wording, assuming that the author had been mistaken or made an error. See: (3/ 384, 760).
The author also quoted from this work some reports from al-Wāqidī’s accounts of the military campaigns, which al-Bayhaqī transmitted from him with their chains of transmission. See, for example: (3/ 330, 334, 383). In one passage (3/ 756), he quoted through it from al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān’s accounts of the military campaigns.
Indeed, the author even quotes hadiths found in the two Sahīh collections and other works through “Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwa,” using the wording in which al-Bayhaqī transmitted them, while attributing them to those works rather than to al-Bayhaqī. See, for example: (3/ 339, 353, 379, 380, 448–449). Here too, the editors of the al-Risāla edition err by replacing this wording with that of the two Sahīh collections, assuming that the author had quoted from memory and made a mistake. See: (3/ 427, 675, 771).
When quoting accounts of the military campaigns from “al-Dalāʾil,” the author named the work in only two places (3/ 680, 759). Usually, he attributes these accounts directly to their authors, saying, for example, “Ibn Ishāq said,” or “Mūsā ibn ʿUqba said,” and so on. Sometimes he says, “Al-Bayhaqī said,” when quoting his assessment of a report or a similar comment.
2 - “Jawāmiʿ al-Sīra” by Ibn Hazm. He quoted from it in a few places in the first half of the volume without naming it (3/ 54, 196, 229), and in some places he says:
