As for the Dhuhr prayer, he would sometimes prolong its recitation. Abū Sa‘īd said: “The Dhuhr prayer would begin, and a man could go to al-Baqī‘, relieve himself, then return to his family and perform ablution, and still catch the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in the first unit of prayer= so long did he prolong it.” Reported by Muslim (1).
He would sometimes recite in it a passage equal in length to Surah “Alif Lām Mīm. The revelation” (2), sometimes “Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High” (3) and surahs such as “By the night as it envelops” (4), and sometimes “By the sky with its constellations” and “By the sky and the night-comer” (5).
As for the ‘Asr prayer, his recitation was half the length of his Dhuhr recitation when the latter was long, and equal to it when it was short (6).
