Zād al-MaʿādIbn al-Qayyim

ʿAbbās that he said “Allah is greatest” and then recited this supplication (1).

At other times he would say:
“Allah is greatest, Allah is greatest, Allah is greatest. Abundant praise be to Allah, abundant praise be to Allah, abundant praise be to Allah. Glory be to Allah morning and evening, glory be to Allah morning and evening, glory be to Allah morning and evening. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from Satan—from the madness he causes, the pride he inspires, and the poetry he prompts” (2).

At other times he would say:
“‘Allah is greatest,’ ten times, then (3) glorify Allah ten times, then praise Him ten times, declare that there is no god but Allah ten times, and seek forgiveness ten times. Then he would say, ‘O Allah, forgive me, guide me, and provide for me,’ ten times. Then he would say, ‘O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of standing on the Day of Resurrection,’ ten times” (4).

= All these forms have been authentically reported from him.

It is also reported that he would begin the prayer with: “Glory and praise be to You, O Allah; blessed is Your name,
