Whenever he put on his shirt (1), he began with the right side (2).
He also wore garments made from black hair. Muslim relates in his Sahīh (3) that ʿĀ’isha said:
“The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, came out wearing a cloak patterned with saddle designs (4), made from black hair.”
In the two Sahīh collections (5), Qatāda reported:
“We asked Anas, ‘What clothing did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, like best?’ He replied, ‘The hibara cloak.’”
The hibara is a type (6) of Yemeni cloak. Most of their clothing was woven in Yemen, since it was nearby. Sometimes they wore garments brought from Syria and Egypt, such as the Coptic linen garments woven by the Copts.
In Sunan al-Nasā’ī (7), ʿĀ’isha reported that she made a woollen cloak for the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he wore it. When he perspired and noticed the smell of the wool, he took it off. He loved pleasant scents.
