He also married Juwayriyah bint al-Hārith ibn Abī Dirār, of Banū al-Mustaliq. She was among the captives taken from Banū al-Mustaliq and came to him seeking help with the payment due under her emancipation contract. He paid it on her behalf and married her.
He also married Umm Habībah, whose name was Ramlah bint Abī Sufyān Sakhr ibn Harb, of Quraysh and Banū Umayyah. It is also said that her name was Hind. He married her while she was living as an emigrant in Abyssinia. The Negus paid her a marriage dowry of four hundred dinars on his behalf, and she was brought to him from there. She died during the reign of her brother Mu‘āwiyah.
This is the well-known, widely and consistently transmitted account among biographers and historians. For them, it is as firmly established as his marriage to Khadījah in Mecca, to Hafsah in Medina, and to Safiyyah after Khaybar.
As for the hadith transmitted by Ikrimah ibn Ammār, from Abū Zumayl, from Ibn Abbās, in which Abū Sufyān said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, “I ask you for three things,” and he granted them to him, one of these requests being, “I have Umm Habībah, the most beautiful of Arab women, whom I offer you in marriage” (1)—this hadith contains an obvious and unmistakable error (2). Abū Muhammad ibn Hazm (3) said: “It is undoubtedly fabricated; Ikrimah ibn Ammār fabricated it.”
