In the chapter on purification, the author, may Allah have mercy on him, discussed the Prophet’s guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning ablution, wiping over leather socks, and dry ablution. He omitted his guidance concerning ritual bathing and the removal of impure substances.
In the chapter on prayer, he first described the Prophet’s prayer (peace and blessings be upon him) from beginning to end, then followed this with his guidance concerning prostrations for forgetfulness, remembrance of Allah after prayer, and the use of a prayer screen. He then discussed his guidance concerning the regular sunnah prayers, night prayer and witr, the midmorning prayer, prostration of gratitude, prostration during Quran recitation, Friday prayer, the two Eid prayers, eclipse prayer, prayer for rain, his prayer while travelling, and Quran recitation. He concluded with chapters on his guidance concerning funerals and related matters, including the prohibition against raising graves, visiting graves, and offering condolences.
Among the subjects he discussed at length were placing the knees before the hands when prostrating, qunūt (supplication) in the dawn prayer, the distinctive merits of Friday—of which he listed thirty-three (1/ 460 - 530)—and identifying the hour on Friday when supplications are answered.
In the chapter on charity and zakat, he first discussed the wisdom behind the prescription of zakat, the Prophet’s guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning its distribution and giving it to those entitled to receive it, and the prohibition against a donor purchasing what he had given in charity. He devoted a chapter to zakat on honey and explained the Prophet’s guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning zakat al-fitr and voluntary charity. Since charity is among the greatest causes of a heart’s contentment and openness, he devoted a chapter to these causes and how they were realised to perfection in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (2/ 28 - 33).
In the chapter on fasting, he first discussed when fasting became obligatory, then the Prophet’s guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) during Ramadan, and his practice of not beginning the Ramadan fast without a verified sighting of the crescent or witness testimony. He discussed at length fasting on the day when clouds obscure the crescent, and explained the Prophet’s guidance (peace and blessings be upon him) concerning breaking the fast, the ruling on fasting while travelling, his guidance concerning fasting while in a state requiring a full ritual bath, the things that invalidate a person’s fast, and fasting
